Devotional Guide: EXCUSES ARE THE FOUNDATION OF LIMITATION

The Lord’s Chosen Devotional Guide

Date: Monday, October 4th, 2021.

Text: Exodus 3: 10-14, Exodus 4: 1, 10-14.

Theme: EXCUSES ARE THE FOUNDATION OF LIMITATION.

Memory Verse: “And they all with one consent began to make excuses…” (Luke 14: 18a)

Many people are always full of excuses why they will not be able to perform the tasks allotted to them. If we are to occupy all that the Lord has in store for us, we must be up and doing and stop making excuses.
We need to take the bull by the horns and charge forth with the assignment that the Lord has given us.

Unfortunately, for many, there will always be one thing or the other that they will use as an excuse not to carry out God’s assignment. They will rationalise how impossible or difficult the task is and begin to offer various excuses as to why they cannot do the will of God. God does not take kindly to this sort of attitude.

In our text today, we see Moses giving one excuse or the other as to why God should send someone else instead of him to go and deliver the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt.
He first told God that he was of little standing (Exodus 3:11), then that He would not be believed (4:1).

He also gave the excuse that he was slow of speech (4:10) and even passed over the offer to be healed of it (4:11-12). He gave one excuse after the other until he finally told God to please send somebody else.
Can you just imagine! God became angry and Moses was wise enough to know that any further excuse or disobedience would result in immediate judgment and quickly submitted to the Will of God.

We have the privilege of knowing how Moses ended. He did not only successfully carry out his assignment, but it was recorded that God called him a friend and spoke with him face to face (Exodus 33: 11, Deuteronomy 34: 10-12). What a wonderful testimony.
But he almost missed that glorious destiny by giving flimsy excuses as to why He could not go.
Likewise, anytime we give excuses, we are at risk of limiting the power and move of God in our lives and truncating our destiny in Christ. When God gives us an assignment, be sure that He will give you all that are necessary to fulfil it. For every excuse that Moses gave, God had an answer.
Equally, He has made provision for all those things that might seem like obstacles in your way. Just trust Him. It is human to feel inadequate in the face of a daunting task but remember that He who sent us is more than able to supply all our needs.
From today onward be determined not to give any excuses that will limit your ability to occupy till He comes.

Some people give excuses with their wives, husbands, children, job, business, academics, careers and so on. There are others who want to feel comfortable before they can take up God’s assignment.
They include those who want to get married, build house, buy cars, have enough cash in their bank accounts and so on. Little do they know that giving excuses amount to disobedience to God’s commandment.

The bible asks us to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness before every other thing is added unto us. Therefore, taking up God’s assignment is an act of righteousness needed to spur you on.

What is that assignment heaven has given to you? You must begin to carry them out without offering excuses. Giving further excuses might ignite God’s anger in your life.

Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:

  1. From today, I bind every sprit of excuses, limitation and timidity in my life.
  2. I receive grace to occupy my possessions and fulfill my destiny in Jesus name.
  3. I refuse to give any excuses and submit to the Will of God in Jesus name.
  4. I pray that the grace upon the life of my G.O and Mommy in the Lord will increase even more in Jesus name.
  5. Dear Lord, anoint the Chosen ones with power to occupy and gain territories in Jesus name.
  6. Lord help our nation to overcome the plots of the wicked in Jesus name.
