The Lord’s Chosen Devotional Guide

Text: Ecclesiastes 9:11
Theme: NOT BY MIGHT, NOR BY POWER
Memory Verse: “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6)
This month has indeed been designated as the month of Showers of Blessing. It is expected to be a period of unlimited flow of God’s blessings upon the chosen people. By this program of God, blessings pour down upon the chosen of God like rain showers from the sky. The blessings shall be so many that they will be likened to showers. Having said that, it is also important to note that becoming a beneficiary is not a function of the amount of physical energy an individual expends in his/her human tasks. Instead, it will be enabled by the grace of God. This was the exact information God used His prophet, Zechariah, to pass to Zerubbabel. (Zechariah 4:6)
Zerubbabel led the first batch of the Jews numbering about 42, 360 who returned from captivity after 70 years in exile. (Ezra 2:64) Two years after, he built an altar and laid the foundation of the temple on the ruins of the one earlier destroyed by King Nebuchadnezzar. (Ezra 3:8-13) All through the work, he played a prominent role and was also a descendant of the royal lineage of David. These special roles he played in the lives of his people could have given him the impression he was a great man. But God by His spirit reminded him saying, “Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit.”
Like Zerubbabel, it is also possible that you have some human qualities that give you the impression of being favorably disposed towards God’s showers in this month. How wrong you are! Just like the Lord told Zechariah, it is not going to be by might or by power. If anyone is going to receive showers of God’s blessings, it is not going to be because he/she labors or struggles more than others. (Philippians 4:13) Rather, it is only going to be a function of God’s grace. Therefore, you must look unto God, trust, and depend upon Him for your supply. (Philippians 4:19) This does not in any way suggest you should just fold your hands and watch without engaging in any form of economic activity.
You must work very hard and also pray and God will reward your efforts with success.
Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:
- Any feeling of pride and a false sense of having arrived occupying my heart; be ousted by the Holy Ghost fire, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, give me the enabling grace to receive fresh showers of your blessings into my life this month, in Jesus’ name.
- Any spirit behind non-achievement in my life; be ousted by the Holy Ghost fire, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, give our G. O and Mommy in the Lord the enabling grace to retain their composure in the face of trials and persecutions, in Jesus’ name.
- We stand in the gap for our nation and stop every program and plan of war. We declare peace, in Jesus’ name.
