The Lord’s Chosen Devotional Guide

Date: Sunday 5th September 2021

Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1

Memory Verse: “But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.” (Psalm 73:28)

In our devotional guide for yesterday, we highlighted those reasons God’s showers of blessings can be withheld in the life of a believer. We were able to identify sin as a major hindrance to answers to our prayers. Therefore, it becomes imperative that the only way to halt that evil trend of no answers to prayer is to draw closer to God in salvation, righteousness, repentance, and prayers. Our memory verse for today captures this thought by saying, “But it is good for me to draw near to God.” Indeed, it is not only good but has also become imperative that we must draw closer to God. That is the only way to qualify for God’s showers of blessings. You cannot be far from God and still talk about receiving His blessings.

Most recently, we found ourselves battling with the coronavirus pandemic which resulted in deaths as people died in their hundreds of thousands. It was also during the same period that world economies collapsed, thereby leading to loss of jobs, closure of work/business places, inflation, high cost of living, low standard of living, etc. During this time, many social activities became grounded to a halt. Football matches and other contact sports were suspended as the stadiums came under lock and key. Night clubs, eateries, banks, markets, worship centers were all closed down. These situations defied every known human solution making it imperative that drawing nearer to God is the only known solution.
These are not the best of times in our nation and the world in general.

They are the perilous times the bible refers to when men shall be lovers of themselves more than lovers of God. This love for themselves has made wicked men believe that they are better than others. With this mindset, they can shed blood without any remorse. This love for themselves has made them make merchandise of people’s blood as they sponsor insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, prostitution, abortion, child/human trafficking, and all sorts of evil. This has made the land a very dangerous place to dwell.

In the face of this harsh reality of our time, it has become very risky isolating God from your day-to-day life. Anyone who does not draw closer to God is like a vehicle without insurance cover and in the event of an accident, such vehicle will not be indemnified. This is the time when every true believer needs God to be on his/her side. God is our spiritual insurance cover. Our risks are already insured by the blood of Jesus Christ, which has indemnified us from every guilt.

Therefore, it makes sense to draw closer to God. Our protection and survival depend on Him.

Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:

  1. Lord, provide me with the enabling grace to draw closer to you, in Jesus’ name.
  2. Abide in me and cause me to abide in you and depend upon you in these unusual times, in Jesus’ name.
  3. Protect me and my family from destruction and death, in Jesus’ name.
  4. Watch over our G. O, Mommy in the Lord, and their children. Let your watchful eyes be upon them and your hand of power envelope them, in Jesus’ name.
  5. Every satanic program and agenda to instigate war in our nation; fail woefully, in Jesus’ name.
