Text: Luke 12:15, 1 Corinthians 15:19
Theme: DON’T CONFUSE ABUNDANCE WITH ETERNITY
Memory Verse: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36-37)
Abundance and eternity are two different things. Abundance has to do with our survival here on earth, while eternity has to do with our lives hereafter. Both are important, but one is more important. Abundance will expire here, but eternity is forever and will never expire. That is why we need to approach both concepts cautiously. It is good to enjoy an abundance of God’s blessings while on earth. However, we must consider the fact that we still leave them behind when we close our eyes to death. Whatever we amass or acquire can never go with us to eternity. If that be the case, one begins to wonder why earthly abundance should take precedence over eternal life in heaven. It is for this reason that our memory verse for today centers on the comparison between material acquisitions and the human soul.
An abundance of everything in life is a good thing, no doubt. It helps us to live comfortable lives free from lack, leanness, scarcity, hardship, hunger, poverty, backwardness, limitation, and stagnation. However, abundance can become a problem when it begins to affect our relationship with God. When this happens, it puts our eternity in jeopardy. That is why you must sit back and take another critical look at your search for an abundance of everything – money, position, honor, wealth and riches, promotion in life, etc. Is your search for abundance limited to earthly and material possessions? You need to watch out.
Whatever you acquire or possess in life has no place in heaven and at death, you will have no need for any of them. For this reason, we must curtail the extent of attention we give or attach to them. They are temporary. God only allows us access to them to bless and honor His children so that we might glorify His name. They are not visas to heaven. That is why you must ensure a balance of everything. It might be true that you have exhausted all your resources as an aftermath of the Corona Virus pandemic and now, it seems as if you are starting all over again. This might naturally increase your desperation to get back on your feet as soon as possible. There is nothing wrong with being ambitious. But you must remember; your eternity is what matters most. Allowing the pursuit of replacement of your earthly resources/possessions to the detriment of your relationship with God and heaven, at last, is an obvious sign of misplacement of priority. Therefore, while chasing your dreams, try to reflect on the lessons of the past few months and ask yourself, “What if the rapture had taken place during that period?” Were you ready? Being alive today and spared from the virus and other sorrows offers you a second chance to reflect on your priorities and make the necessary amendments so that you can get ready for any eventuality.
So, begin now do everything to ensure you have a right standing with God so that even if the trumpet sounds today, you will have no regrets whatsoever.
Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:
- Anything that will take my mind away from eternity, I give you up, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, I ask for the grace to be ready for the moment you will appear in the sky for the rapture, in Jesus’ name.
- O Lord, may your mercy never expire in my life until you perfect that which concerns me, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, give our G. O, Mummy in the Lord and their children the grace to retain their focus until you appear, in Jesus’ name.
