Devotional Guide: NO FOOD FOR LAZY MAN

The Lord’s Chosen Devotional Guide

Date: Tuesday 17th August 2021

Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12

Theme: NO FOOD FOR LAZY MAN

Memory Verse: “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12)

The dictionary defines laziness as the quality of being unwilling to work or expend energy or idleness. From the foregoing, it is certain that a lazy person loves to enjoy the abundance of all things, but does not have the passion to work. A lazy man consumes but does not produce. One, therefore, begins to wonder where those wonderful blessings a lazy person desires would come from. There is therefore the need to sound out all those who desire to enjoy life, while at the same time despising to work. This is a shame!
Many misguided believers think that abundance comes from fasting and prayer. That is not true.

Fasting and prayer are good but do not substitute work. Abundance comes from faith (prayer and fasting) plus hard work. Therefore, you have to come out and exercise your faith today and work hard also. The apostles had their vocations so that they would not inconvenience those they were ministering unto. So, it will be wrong for you to hide under the cloak of being an evangelist, usher, prayer warrior, or even pastor and refuse to work. When you do not have money, you will be forced to extort and lie. To occupy a position in the church is a service unto God, not a career.

If you hide under any office in the church and refuse to work or engage in any meaningful economic activity, then you are a lazy person. When the church is taking care of all your bills, then you are no more a worker, but a contractor. Therefore, while evangelizing, ushering, interceding, and so on, you must be ready to engage yourself in work or any meaningful economic activity so that you can be able to pay your bills (House rent, children’s school fees, utility bills, etc)

Maybe you are a pastor, evangelist, usher, prayer warrior, etc, and people respect you because of your calling. That is not a ticket to go and sit down somewhere waiting for food to come and meet you. Maybe as a result of your title, you feel you cannot stoop so low to do certain kinds of jobs. The truth is that you must drop your pride and go look for food for yourself and your family. There is certainly no food for a lazy man. Even in Freetown, nothing is free. Be ready to work or face starvation.

Many people who claim not to have funds to go into business have at one time or the other received financial favor but refused to venture into any economic activity because those who gave them the money did not ask them specifically to use it for business. They choose to pay for a three-bedroom flat than invest part of the money in a business. So, every year, they have to depend on someone to pay the rent for them. That is an act of laziness.

If therefore you desire abundance, you must not depend on people to foot your bills, or else you become a parasite to them. Instead, you must come out of your comfort zone and find something meaningful to do with your life.

Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:

  1. Any spirit of laziness ministering to me not to work, but instead depend upon the church, pastor, and others, catch fire, in Jesus’ name.
  2. Let the passion and drive for work burn inside of me so that I can look for something to do with my life, in Jesus’ name.
  3. Any legacy of poverty left for me by earlier generations in my family; be broken by thunder, in Jesus’ name.
  4. Any spirit assigned to weaken our G. O and Mommy in the Lord and make them complacent in the work of God; be destroyed by fire, in Jesus’ name.
