DATE: Monday, October 2nd, 2017.
TEXT: Matthew 25:14-30
THEME: WHAT ACCOUNT WILL YOU RENDER ON THAT DAY?
MEMORISE: And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. (Hebrews 9:27)
MESSAGE:
When Jesus said we should occupy till He comes, He meant that we should be fully engaged in meaningful activities that will help us develop the talents that we have been given while we await His return. We will surely be asked to give an account of just how we used the talent that was given to us. In the parable that we read today, we can draw many useful lessons. Firstly we will all have to give an account of how we used the talents that we were given. You need to ask yourself before it is too late whether or not you are using your talent in a way that glorifies God or whether you are using it to the contrary. Just as a businessman expects a return on the money he invested with some business, likewise God expects a return on His investment in you.
Another lesson to draw from this parable is the fact that everybody has been given a talent even though it might vary in degree. God will not expect a return on what you do not have. Both the persons who were given 5 and 2 talents were equally commended for their faithfulness. Therefore do not compare yourself with another person. Be faithful on the job that God has entrusted in your hands and you will receive your reward in due season.
Lastly, we can see that God will not accept any excuses on that day. The person with one talent felt that since he had a little compared to his peers, he didn’t have to do anything. How wrong he was! His master was furious that he wasted his talent and he was punished for it. Do not think that you have nothing to offer. Everyone has something to contribute to the kingdom. You may not have money, but you can tell others about the good news of salvation. You may not know how to talk eloquently but you can show love and concern for people that are in need. Your gift maybe prayer, or the ability to organize logistics. All of us have one thing or the other to contribute. Make sure you use yours wisely so you can give a worthy account on that day.
Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:
1. Dear Father, give me the grace to deploy my talents for your use in Jesus’ name.
2. Dear Lord, reveal to me your will and give me the grace to obey in Jesus’ name.
3. Father, I pray for my G. O and Mummy in the Lord that you will continue to multiple your grace and unction upon their lives in order to increase their harvest, in Jesus’ name.
